The stars

The stars awarded are based on over 250 different criteria. One to five stars are awarded. In addition, a 1 – 4 star property can be labelled "Garni" (e.g. 3 star Garni) for hotels serving breakfast only. Hotels with significantly more points than required for their star category, but do not meet all minimum criteria for the next category can be assigned an additional quality in the form of "Superior".
Below is a brief summary of the main characteristics of the different star levels. Until the end of 2016, when the Hotel Stars Union is fully implemented, individual deviations may occur.

1 star
• 100% of the rooms have a shower / bath and a WC.
• Daily room cleaning.
• 100% of the rooms have a TV with a remote control.
• Table and chair.
• Soap or body shampoo by the basin.
• Bath towels.
• Reception Service.
• Public phone available.
• Extended/prolonged breakfast.
• Possibility of drinks at the hotel.
• Storage for valuables.

2 star
• Breakfast Buffet.
• Bedside / reading lamp.
• Internet connection in the room or in public areas.
• Payment by credit card.
• Soap or body shampoo in the shower / by the tub.
• Wardrobe Shelves.
• Selection of personal hygiene products available (e.g. toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving kit)

3 star
• Front desk staffed 14 hours and available 24 hours a day for internal and external calls, bilingual staff.
• Seats at the reception, luggage service on request.
• Beverages offered in the room.
• Hair dryer and facial tissues in the room.
• Full Figure mirror, adequate storage space for luggage / suitcase
• Sewing kit, shoe polishing, washing and ironing service.
• Extra pillow and duvet on request.
• Systematic complaint handling system.

4 star
• Front desk is staffed 16 hours and available 24 hours a day for internal and external calls
• Lobby with seating and serving of drinks, hotel bar.
• Breakfast buffet or equivalent menu.
• Mini-bar or 16 hours drinks service via room service.
• Upholstered chair / couch with side table / tray
• Bathrobe and slippers on request
• Cosmetic products (e.g. shower cap, nail file, cotton pads, and body lotion), cosmetic mirror, shelf / storage space for toiletries, heated bathroom.

5 star
• Reception desk manned around the clock, multilingual staff
• Valet parking
• Concierge, bellhop
• Spacious reception area with several seating arrangements and drinks service
• Mini-bar and food and drinks via 24-hour room service
• Bottled personal care products.
• Internet device (e.g. PC or tablet) in room on request
• In-room safe.
• Ironing service (return within 1 hour), shoeshine service
• Turndown service
